I've only recently moved to Roanoke and have tried to fish the New a few times. I'm reasonably new to river fishing and have not got the knack of it yet. I will probably hire a guide this spring to teach me the ropes.
As you can see from the photos there is a wide range of fish in the river ,something for everyone.
The New River has great smallie fishing throughout VA.The upper New has lots of fish but dose not have the numbers or the size of the lower New but is still good fishing. You can pull bigger fish out of the upper but they are a little harder to come by.
The New River, a tributary of the Kanawha River, is approximately 320 mi (515 km) long, flowing through the states of North Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia in the United States. Much of the river's course through West Virginia is designated as the New River Gorge National River. The New River is one of the American Heritage Rivers of the United States.
